Induction Continuity Sequence

For this we had been asked to make a short continuity sequence in order to show our knowledge and skills that we have learnt. We had been set a certain amount of shots that we were able to use. These where to show our skills with the camera movement, camera angles, sound and making it a low budget short sequence. We had to use at least five close ups, a shot reverse shot and also without breaking the 180 degree rule an establishing shot. For this we had made a deal clip, handing over a package.

Mise-on-scene

We had not really used many props for this but the ones that we did have where the bag that was being dealt over and the dark black jacket that the bad guy was wearing. We had also set the limit of filming to college with the lockers in the background. The lockers show how it was a school/college deal, maybe it should not really be going on. The expression on my face was that I was slightly worrying that perhaps the deal was not going to end how I would wanted it to. On the other hand, Daniels facial expression was always serious with a slight evil smile, not caring how it would end as long as he got his package.

Camera work

We had used different camera angles that had created different feelings to how both of the characters where feeling. The low angles to Daniel making him appear powerful and know what he is doing. I on the other hand having high camera angles which are therefore making me appear small, weak and not half as confident in this confrontation as what he was. For the first shot we hand held the camera introducing the audience to the scene, then some of the shots we had used a tripod to help keep the camera still, steady and in just the one place. Other shots we had the camera moving along with the actual character as they were walking, as if the audience is following them.

Editing
Putting all of the shots together... We had to get rid of some scenes as the character would 'open the door twice' and we only wanted it the once. We had cut each scene so that it simply follows on from one to another, therefore making it constant. After the two characters had exchanged the package and walked away we faded the clip to where Daniel was going to sit down and open the case, this has created a 'meanwhile' effect. We had also had another fade out effect once Daniel had opened both cases and seen what was inside of the package, finishing with him nodding and smiling as it fades out with the music.

Continuity system

We had a 180 degree rule/ establishing shot where the two characters would exchange over the package, seeing only the waist area of both of the characters. There is a match on action scene where Daniel would open the black bag and the camera would change to be behind him it would then change to see what he is seeing inside of the bag at the time. There was an eye-line match scene from a 3rd person view to a 1st person view. This is where we see a close up of my face with the next scene of what I am then able to see, Daniel walking up towards me. There was also a shot-reverse shot showing the prospective of two characters with their surroundings. This was shown with myself and Daniel walking up to meet each other and the money dealing scene, it has been shown with the camera going over my shoulder to see Daniel to then going over his shoulder to then see me.

Sound
We had taken out the original sound track from the footage and replaced it with some intense music, which helped to set the scene. There was no dialogue or sound effects, just leaving it up the the imagination. As it is just a short sequence we had decided to use incidental music, making the audience believe that something is happening with a bit of tension that has been added.  

Lighting

We hadn't changed any of the lighting and decide to keep in natural, in  order to keep it looking realistic. Using no equipment the ambient lighting used here has not really created any shadows on or off of or characters, perhaps making it appear that they will have a clear mind after the deal has been completed. With lighting like this it has also created positive feelings towards the negative actions that are happening.

Finally,

Even though we had only had a short time to plan this and not many people to work with, I believe we had done very well for our first time. But next time I would hope to use more costumes, more camera angles and maybe make the shots slightly longer than what they are. I feel that the sequence was a little too fast, and maybe with more and slightly longer shots it would not feel as rushed. I would also like to experiment with locations, a darker and creepier one, such as a forest, to set the scene very well. We did however stick to the planning sheet, we were able to get straight on with each scene having clearly written down to what we were going to be doing.

Strength 

For this one we had someone strike a heroic pose looking to the sky, While the photograph was taken from a low angle. This shows how he his overpowering and strong.

Poverty

Here i posed knelt down on the ground, with my hands out begging for peoples spare change. The angle that the photograph has been taken is a high angle showing how powerless I was. 

Love

Here we had the camera going over someones shoulder to look at me. As if he was longing at me while i was daydreaming. The reason for why i am in colour and the rest is in black and white is because I am what he is focusing on.

Fear

Here we took a low angled shot of Daniel with his fist clenched up. I had made his face seem darker as a mystery to who it is, but to also make his seem more threatening. 

Desire

For this one we took a low angled canted shot to capture the desire to the length and the quality of the car. The canted angle makes us want to see more of the car, making it look glamorous.

Danger

Here we took a straight on shot of me looking back running away from Daniel. I changed the image so that Daniel looks dark and evil and so that i look lighter and more innocent and more like the victim of the photograph. This shows the dark danger that is behind some people.

Wealth

We have taken a birds eye shot of some change and a £5 note in each hand. The money is the only colour in the photograph as it is showing this is all of what we have. It has been taken above grass and dirt on the ground, as its either you have money or you don't, a hand reaching out to help.

Weakness

For this photograph we took on a high angle of myself and Daniel having an arm wrestle. He has won which has also been shown by having his fist about to hit the air. On the other hand I am losing, with a face that is trying to win and my left hand trying to help balance the force of the arm wrestle. 

Loneliness

Here we have taken a shot over my shoulder looking at a group of people that have just got up and are now leaving me. I am in black and white as it is showing how i don't really fit in, how i am lonely. 

Friendship

This photograph has been taken on myself and Daniel giving each other a high five. It is a straight on shot that captures the happiness, the joy and the friendship while we are high five-ing each other. 

Purity

For this photograph we had gotten down on the ground and took a worms eye view of the sky and the surrounding trees that are around it. This photograph is good at capturing the purity as it is showing the true beauty of nature. 

Greed

For this photograph we took a long shot to capture head to toe of both myself and Daniel. This photograph is showing how Daniel wants some thing that he hasn't got. I am walking away when i notice someone trying to grab my camera bag.
