DepicT Choosing

Here I have gone onto the DepicT website and I have chosen the best three short films that I like and think stand out very well from the others.

Webbed - Nick Rowell and Gabriel Farnese

This had such a big story behind it, and somehow managed to keep it simple. It is based upon a true story which has made it even more heart-warming. It was sad how the child was maybe starting to think he did not have any super powers. No one had noticed him. Then he met a stranger who made him believe in himself again. By dropping his shopping and opening his shirt, to see superman. The music used in this short film is very simple and does not pick up speed. Although the film picks up speed the music does not, this had created a feeling that not everyone will even know what is going on, oblivious to it all. My favourite part of this is the part where the stranger has told the child to "shh", playing along keeping the identity a secret. The camera angles that were used here are used very well, from showing us the child to showing us what he sees. This can therefore make the audience feel what he is feeling.

A Thing - Chintan Gohil

This short film had one whole process of how this guy makes "A Thing" out of a block of wood in one and a half minutes. I feel that this film is inspirational to what people are actually capable of doing once the mind has been set to it. The film had also caught my attention throughout the full duration of the timing, almost poetic. The simple way that the camera has captured him with such complicated hand work that he is putting on to the wood. It is showing how creative that you have to be to really do something as extraordinary as this. I do not have one favourite part of this short film as I love all of it, and how it slowly takes shape, therefore making the audience feel that he is able to making anything that he would like from each block of wood. The ending shows how after one has been made he gets started right away on the next one; there is no hold him back. It is a journey of something simple to something more valuable.

Cool Unicorn Bruv - Ninian Doff

The reason for choosing this final short film is that it had captured my attention with a slightly funny story line. I believe that the actor here made it funnier than what it could have been with different people. I love the way that they act so natural, trying to convince one person that their item is better than the others. My favourite part of this short film is the part when the guy with the unicorn is walking away and the unicorn the shots a part of a rainbow out from its horn. The way that the camera angles are constantly changing helps to keep the audience engaged, it makes this appear that they are trying to give something away that maybe should not be on the streets, but then at the end we see that many people have actually already got them. They have also not used any form of music, but have used various different sound effects and dialect from the actual characters.
